Fear of Greatness

Many of us have experienced fear at some point in our lives, whether it's fear of failure or fear of something even greater. But what's the difference between these two types of fear, and how can we learn to distinguish between them?

Fear of greatness

Fear of failure is a common fear that many of us experience, particularly when we're embarking on something new or stepping out of our comfort zone. It's that nagging feeling that tells us we're not good enough, or that we're going to mess things up. This type of fear is often rooted in a lack of confidence or self-belief, and it can hold us back from pursuing our dreams and goals.

On the other hand, fear of greatness is a fear that arises when we're faced with the possibility of achieving something truly great. It's the fear that we might succeed beyond our wildest dreams, and that this success might bring with it challenges or responsibilities that we're not prepared to handle. This type of fear can be even more paralyzing than fear of failure, as it's often rooted in a deep-seated belief that we're not worthy of success or that we don't deserve it.

So how do we distinguish between these two types of fear and learn to overcome them? One way is to recognize that fear of failure is often based on external factors, such as what others might think of us or whether we'll meet the expectations of others. Fear of greatness, on the other hand, is often based on internal factors, such as our own beliefs about ourselves and our worthiness.

Fear of failure

To overcome fear of failure, it can be helpful to practice self-compassion and to remind ourselves that it's okay to make mistakes. We can also seek support and guidance from others, and focus on building our confidence and self-belief.

To overcome fear of greatness, it can be helpful to shift our focus from external validation to internal validation. This means learning to trust ourselves and our own abilities, and to recognize that we are worthy of success and happiness regardless of what others might think or say.

Ultimately, the key to overcoming both fear of failure and fear of greatness is to recognize that these fears are often based on limiting beliefs and to take action to challenge and overcome them. By doing so, we can tap into our full potential and pursue the things that truly matter to us, without letting fear hold us back.
